Barvanan-e Sharqi Rural District (Persian: دهستان بروانان شرقي)[3] is in Sowmaeh District of Torkamanchay County, East Azerbaijan province, Iran.

[5] At the time of the 2006 National Census, the rural district's population (as a part of Torkamanchay District[a] in Mianeh County) was 8,304 in 2,003 households.

[7] The 2016 census measured the population of the rural district as 6,356 in 2,148 households.

The most populous of its 16 villages was Sowmaeh-ye Olya, with 2,432 people.
