The Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference traces its origins to the Beijing Municipal People's Congress Consultative Committee (北京市各界人民代表会议协商委员会), founded in 1949.

On 25 August 2020, vice chairperson Li Wei was put under investigation for alleged "serious violations of discipline and laws" by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), the party's internal disciplinary body, and the National Supervisory Commission, the highest anti-corruption agency of China.
