It belongs to the district of Mahajanga II, which is a part of Boeny Region.
The population of the municipality was estimated to be approximately 12,000 in 2001 commune census.
There are 7 caves at Belobaka were fossils of lemurs and hippopotamus were found.
[3] These are now exhibited at the Mozea Akiba, a museum of the University of Mahajanga.
This municipality consistes of the nine fokontany (villages) of: Belobaka, Amparemahitsy, Ampazony ou Ampahazony, Ampitolova, Ankazomenavony, Antsaboaka, Antsanitia, Besely and Ladigy.
