It is located in the Bergsdalen valley, east of the village of Dale.
It is the church for the Bergsdalen parish which is part of the Hardanger og Voss prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin.
[1][2] In 1902, a cemetery was built to serve the mountain valley of Bergsdalen.
The church was designed by Leiv Tvilde and Johannes Øvsthus was the lead builder.
The new church was consecrated on 3 July 1955 by the Bishop Ragnvald Indrebø.
