Psittacus ater Scopoli, 1786 The black lory (Chalcopsitta atra), is a medium-sized, blackish parrot with black bill, dark grey feet and long rounded tail.
The black lory is evaluated as Least Concern on IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Red markings on face, thighs, and tail vary between the three subspecies.
Scopoli did not in fact examine any specimens, but used the informal description by the explorer Pierre Sonnerat published in his book Voyage à la Nouvelle-Guinée (1776).
