Bessarabske (Ukrainian: Бессарабське), formerly known as Tarutyne (Ukrainian: Тарутине; Bulgarian: Тарутино, romanized: Tarutino; Romanian: Tarutino or Ancecrac),[1] is a rural settlement in southwestern Ukraine.
It is located in Bolhrad Raion (district) of Odesa Oblast and in the historical region of Budjak in southern Bessarabia.
[4][5] Until 26 January 2024, Tarutyne was designated urban-type settlement.
On this day, a new law entered into force which abolished this status, and Tarutyne became a rural settlement.
[6] In September 2024, Tarutyne was renamed to Bessarabske as a part of the derussification campaign.
