William James Minter (16 April 1888 – 21 May 1940),[1] was a footballer, trainer, manager and assistant secretary at Tottenham Hotspur.
[6] Minter become top-scorer for a few seasons and helped the club retain top flight status for a number of years.
[8] Not long after his return from the war he was made club captain only to announce his retirement at the end of the 1919–20 season after being replaced in the starting line-up by Jimmy Banks.
[4] After retiring as player, he was appointed trainer at Tottenham in June 1920, serving under Peter McWilliam.
One crucial reason, however, may be Minter's decision to sell Jimmy Seed to Sheffield Wednesday, whose place in the team was taken by the younger Taffy O'Callaghan.
During the 1929–30 season (where Tottenham would finish 12th), on 20 November 1929, he resigned due to failing health, brought on by the stress of an unsuccessful reign.
