Over generations, the Calvo and Casajús families developed their own wines in traditional cellars.

[10][11][12] In 1993 José Alberto left the local cooperative and founded his own winery in Quintana del Pidio: “Bodegas J.A.

[13][14][15] In 2004 production began of the signature wine, NIC, an acronym of his children's names, Nicolás and Catalina.

[5][16] In the middle of that same decade, the winery began to receive international recognition due to the positive reviews in Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate.

[17][18][19] In 2013 the winery received the highest scores in Ribera del Duero from the British critic, Neal Martin, for the American magazine Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate.
