B. Sirks, is a Dutch academic lawyer and legal historian specializing in Roman law.
[2][3] In 2014 he was appointed Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion (RNL) and in 2021 he became Doctor of Civil Law (Oxon.).
[citation needed] Sirks's first academic position was as research assistant in philosophy of culture and esthetics at Amsterdam in 1975.
At the same time, he was writing a thesis for a doctoral degree in law at the University of Amsterdam.
[5] In December 2005, Sirks was appointed as the Regius Professor of Civil Law in the University of Oxford, with effect from 1 February 2006,[3] in succession to the late Peter Birks.
