Brian Donnelly (British diplomat)

Sir Joseph Brian Donnelly KBE CMG (born 4 April 1945) is a retired British diplomat.

[1] Brought up in Workington, he was educated at Workington Grammar School,[2] The Queen's College Oxford (1963–66) (Wyndham scholar, MA, ed Cherwell), University of Wisconsin-Madison (MA).

From 1975 to 1979 he served in the UK Mission to the UN as First Secretary for the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and then in Singapore.

[1][3] From 1995 to 1997 he became the United Kingdom Minister and Deputy Permanent Representative to NATO and the Western European Union (WEU) in Brussels.

[1][2] After leaving the diplomatic service, he worked as a special adviser to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jack Straw.
