The broad-tailed paradise whydah (Vidua obtusa) is a species of bird in the family Viduidae.
[2] It is found in woodland and acacia savanna habitat in Sub-Saharan Africa from Angola to Uganda, Tanzania and Mozambique.
A brood parasite, it has a wide range and the International Union for Conservation of Nature has assessed it as being of least concern.
[5] The immature bird resembles the female, but some of its feathers have buffy edges, and its patterns are less distinct.
[4] This whydah is found in Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, with an estimated distribution size of 5,060,000 km2 (1,950,000 sq mi).
