Brookwood, Surrey

Brookwood is a village in Surrey, England, about 3+1⁄2 miles (5.6 km) west of Woking, with a mixture of semi-rural, woodland-set and archetypal suburban residential homes.

The village also gave its name to the former Victorian Brookwood Hospital, once the leading mental institution in Surrey.

[5] It was mapped in detail for the first time in 1709, when it was recorded as covering 684 acres (excluding two large internal enclosures) bounded on all but the north-east side by Woking Common.

[6] Timber from Brookwood was used for the repair of local bridges in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries,[7][8][9] and by 1719 the wood appears to have been stripped of all trees.

Many of London's dead were buried in Brookwood Cemetery during the Victorian era due to the over-population of the city at that time.

Last season 2009/10 they were winners of the Prince Albert Cup, beating Abbey Rangers 5-4 in the match at Surrey Sports Park.
