The Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA), also known as the Bureau of Near East Asian Affairs,[3] is an agency of the Department of State within the United States government that deals with U.S. foreign policy and diplomatic relations with the nations of the Near East.

The offices of the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs direct, coordinate, and supervise U.S. government activities within the region, including political, economic, consular, public diplomacy, and administrative management issues.

[3][4] The bureau is currently led by Joey Hood, a career diplomat serving as the Acting Assistant Secretary.

From June 5, 2019, to January 20, 2021, the bureau was led by Assistant Secretary David Schenker.
