César Rodríguez González

César Rodríguez González (2 February 1894 – 15 August 1962) was a Spanish socialist journalist and politician.

Born in A Coruña, Galicia as the son of fellow socialist and communist Virginia González Polo, he was the editor of Madrid-based newspapers España Nueva, Informaciones and El Socialista.

In 1923, he became secretary general of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE), succeeding its first leader, Antonio García Quejido.

In December 1923, he began a prison sentence of two years and four months for publishing articles insulting the army during the Dictatorship of Primo de Rivera.

[1][2] Upon leaving prison, Rodríguez González reverted to the PSOE and in 1933 was inducted as a Freemason, reaching the second grade.
