Captain George K. H. Coussmaker

Captain George K. H. Coussmaker (1782) is an oil on canvas portrait by Joshua Reynolds.

George Keene Hayward Coussmaker was born in London in 1759 to Evert and Mary Coussmaker, and entered the military as an ensign in the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards in 1776.

He married Catherine Southwell in 1790 and fathered two children, George and Sophia (later, the Baroness de Clifford).

The portrait remained with Coussmaker and his descendants until 1884 when it was sold to William K. Vanderbilt and bequeathed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1920.
