[3] The Castner–Knott Building was built in 1906 for Charles Castner and William Knott's Castner–Knott Dry Goods Company.

Founded in 1898, the store moved from its original location on 5th Avenue in what was the start of the city's westward expansion along Church Street.

An additional renovation was completed in the late 1990s, after Castner–Knott closed its downtown store in 1996.
