The team departed from the historic Aréna Jacques Plante after their last game there on December 18 of the same year.
On May 5, 2009, the Shawinigan Cataractes hosted their first QMJHL President Cup Finals game in 38 years and their first in the new arena.
On May 27, 2012, the Shawinigan Cataractes defeated the London Knights 2–1 in overtime to capture the MasterCard Memorial Cup, and also become just the second team in QMJHL history as the host team to win.
