While there, he learns that the family has fallen on hard times, and in the course of his visit he and the two daughters discover the Bradley Morton's dead body, who has committed suicide.

With nowhere to live after their house and its contents are auctioned off, the girls agree to stay in the apartment of Wayne Osborne, their father's ex-business partner.

Unbeknownst to the girls, Osborne is attempting to swindle them out of the property, so he can sell it at a huge profit to Mr. Reach, who wants to develop it into a racetrack.
