[6] The community was named for Otto von Bismarck, Chancellor of the German Empire.

The racial makeup of the town was 97.87% White, 0.91% Native American, and 1.22% from two or more races.

32.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

None of the families and 4.2% of the population were living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and 11.8% of those over 64.
