Charanpur is a village in the Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal, India, about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) from the industrial town of Asansol.

[3] Pangachhiya, Majiara, Bhanowara, Domohani, Charanpur (OG), Ratibati and Chelad form a cluster of census towns and an outgrowth on the northern and eastern sides of Asansol.

In addition to the erstwhile municipalities of Kulti, Jamuria, and Raniganj subsequently incorporated into the Asansol Municipal Corporation, the agglomeration included the census towns of Amkula, Baktarnagar, Ballavpur, Bhanowara, Domohani, Egara, Jemari (J.K. Nagar Township), Majiara, Murgathaul, Raghunathchak, Sahebganj and Topsi, and also Charanpur, an outgrowth of Jamuria.

[10] In 1865 Apcar and Company was working a seam of coal 13 feet (4.0 m) deep near Charanpur.

[13] The Civil Engineering College at Sibpur began providing regular course of instruction in mining at the colliery in 1906.
