Charleston–Mattoon, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area

The Charleston–Mattoon, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of Coles County in central Illinois, anchored by the cities of Charleston and Mattoon.

[1] As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 64,449 people, 25,411 households, and 15,161 families residing within the μSA.

The racial makeup of the μSA was 95.98% White, 1.90% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.68% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.25% of the population.

Males had a median income of $31,804 versus $20,965 for females.
