Chloropterus is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae.
[3] It is distributed in Eastern Europe, West to Central Asia and North Africa.
[4][5] The genus was originally established under the name Heterocnemis by the Russian entomologist Ferdinand Morawitz in 1860 for a single species, Heterocnemis versicolor.
However, the name Heterocnemis had already been used for a genus of flower chafers (Cetoniinae), so Morawitz renamed his genus to Chloropterus the following year.
