[3] During the Japanese rule of Korea he was a member of the partisan resistance group, messenger of Kim Il Sung and a company commander.

In September 1978 he was promoted in rank and appointed commander of Hamhung District.

During the 6th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea held in October 1980 he was appointed a full (voting) member of the 6th Central Committee.

On April that year he was appointed president of the Kim Il Sung Military University.

[8] On April 20, 1992 he was awarded once again Hero of the Republic and appointed to the rank of Vice Marshal.
