Chubby Tavares

Antone Lawrence "Chubby" Tavares[1] (born June 2, 1944) is an American retired singer.

[1] Antone was born at the family home at 2 Wickeden Street, Fox Point, in Providence, Rhode Island.

[2] Weighing 10 pounds and 14 ounces, his grandmother, Olympia Vieira, nicknamed him "Chubby", which has stuck for the rest of his life.

[4] In 1973, with the lineup of brothers Ralph, Pooch, Chubby, Butch, and Tiny, they changed their name to Tavares.

[3] Tavares cites pulmonary illness as the main reason for his retirement.
