He served in the British Army during the First World War as an officer in the East Yorkshire Regiment, in the course of which he was killed in action in November 1917.

[1] He was educated at Marlborough College, from where he progressed to study medicine.

[2] Saville made three appearances in first-class cricket in the 1914 County Championship for Middlesex with limited success against Yorkshire, Lancashire, and Nottinghamshire;[3][4] he played alongside his younger brother, Stanley, in these matches.

Saville served in the British Army during the First World War, being commissioned into the East Yorkshire Regiment as a second lieutenant in October 1914;[5] he was one of the original officers of the 11th Battalion, colloquially known as part of the Hull Pals.

[6] He saw action during the Battle of Arras in 1917, and later that year he was killed on 8 November while leading a daylight raid on German trenches.
