Clio, California

Clio (formerly, Wash) is a census-designated place in Plumas County, California, United States.

[2] In 1905, according to local folklore, prominent citizens decided that the name "Wash" was too often mistaken for the town of Washington, in Nevada County on the south fork of the Yuba River.

As suggested by Postmaster Fred King, it was decided the new name of their community should be Clio, the trade name prominently cast into the door of the heating stove they were looking at.

[5] According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

There were 60 housing units at an average density of 104.2 per square mile (40.2/km2), of which 33 (84.6%) were owner-occupied, and 6 (15.4%) were occupied by renters.
