The borough of Sylvania is surrounded by the southern part of the township but is separate.

The township has two unincorporated villages: Columbia Cross Roads in the east, and Austinville in the west.

[3] As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 1,162 people, 425 households, and 337 families residing in the township.

17.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
