In October 2020, John issued a 10-inch vinyl only "jazz" version, backed by members of Hookfoot, recorded during the Tumbleweed Connection sessions, but not used on the album.

The album was recorded at London's Trident Studio in March 1970, produced by Gus Dudgeon, and released in October 1970.

Set in the keys of A minor and D major, the song starts with an evocative harp introduction augmented by natural guitar harmonics.
