[2] The township includes the communities of Clarksburg, Foster, Lewisville, McKeeverville, Nowrytown, Tunnelton (formerly called Kelly Station), and White.
Saltsburg, so named for the salt wells in the area, incorporated as a borough from part of the township on May 4, 1838.
[6] The township is bordered on the south by the Conemaugh[7] and Kiskiminetas[8] Rivers.
Blacklegs Creek flows through the township before joining the Kiskiminetas River near Saltsburg.
22.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
