There is an additional pub, The Bounty, on the river bank with access only by foot or boat and open in the summer and winter weekends.
Cookham Dean has a site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and local nature reserve on the western edge of the village, called Bisham Woods.
The village was the home of actor and comedian Tim Brooke-Taylor (1940–2020), who was involved in local events.
[citation needed] The author and banker Kenneth Grahame lived at The Mount as a child with his grandmother and uncle after his mother died.
He then returned to the village after retiring from the Bank of England, living in a house called Mayfield.
