Coupvray

Coupvray (French: [kuvʁɛ] ⓘ) is a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region in north-central France about 30kms east of Paris.

Coupvray was the birthplace and home of Louis Braille.

Braille's hands are buried in Coupvray as a symbol of Louis’ system of touch reading; the rest of his body is buried in the Panthéon, Paris.

The commune has the Groupe scolaire Francis et Odette Teisseyre, a school group including one preschool and one elementary school.

The collège (junior high school) Etablissement Louis Braille in Esbly serves Coupvray, and the assigned senior high school is the Lycée Pierre de Coubertin in Meaux.
