The Florida Marlins selected Martínez in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft on December 7, 2006.
On June 1, he collected his first win in the Majors after tossing 1+2⁄3 innings of scoreless relief against the Milwaukee Brewers.
[2] After qualifying as a Super Two earlier in the offseason, on January 18, 2013, Martínez agreed to a one–year, $750,000 contract to avoid arbitration with the Braves.
On April 12, Martínez, who suffered a shoulder strain, was placed on the disabled list in order to clear roster space for recently acquired reliever Luis Ayala.
