This will be the 9th appearance of the event, which has been held at every Summer Olympics since the introduction of women's track cycling in 1988.
A National Olympic Committee (NOC) could enter up to 2 qualified cyclists in the women's sprint.
The competition begins, as usual, with a qualifying round of time trials (flying start 200 metres).
