It is the church for the Dale parish which is part of the Sogn prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin.

Construction includes granite in cavity walls with soapstone corners and frames.

The church is endowed with soapstone sculptures and preserved interiors from the Middle Ages.

The church porch and the bell tower above the entrance in the west were built around the year 1635 by Werner Olsen.
