Danville, Mississippi

[1] The first non-Indian settlement in what was then Tishomingo County, Danville was destroyed by the Union Army during the American Civil War.

[2] Troy was the first non-Indian settlement in Tishomingo County, and was founded by John Rives and Mr. Fitz, who opened a store there.

[2] The population reached a peak of 150, and Danville had blacksmith shops, four or five businesses, a two-story inn, a Masonic Temple, a school, an Indian trading post, and several saloons.

[2][7] During the Civil War, the Union Army needed timber to erect a stockade and soldiers' quarters at Camp Davis, located about 3 mi (4.8 km) north of Danville, across the Tuscumbia River.

Danville was shelled and its residents told to leave, after which its log homes and buildings were dismantled and moved to Camp Davis.
