[1] Akande was the first Black professor to be honoured with a portrait at St Peter's College, Oxford.

[2] Akande is a founding editor of EJIL:Talk!, the scholarly blog of the European Journal of International Law.

[6] In September 2024, the UK Government declared its intention to nominate Professor Akande for election as a judge to the International Court of Justice for the term 2027 - 2035.

He has advised the African Union, the Commonwealth Secretariat, Council of Europe, the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), the International Committee of the Red Cross and NATO.
