De Reiger, Nijetrijne

De Reiger (English: The Heron) is a smock mill in Nijetrijne, Friesland, Netherlands which was built in 1871.

The mill was built in 1871 by Jan Hernanus Engelmoer for ƒ9,097, the millers house costing a further ƒ903.

It was stopped working in 1956 due to a defect with its Archimedes' screw.

A further restoration in 2006 saw the mill fitted with new sails, slightly shorter than the originals.

Formerly known as Molen №5, the name De Reiger was only given to the mill after it was converted to a holiday cottage.
