Debi Rose

[2] Her maternal grandparents owned one of two black-owned funeral homes on Staten Island, and were community leaders.

[3] She is a graduate of Port Richmond High School, where she was a member of the Staten Island's NAACP youth group and the Vice President of her senior class.

[4][5] In the September 2009 Democratic primary, Rose defeated incumbent Kenneth Mitchell by 16 percentage points.

Rose currently serves as the chairperson of the New York City Council Committee on Civil Rights.

Rose should have paid DFS $100,000, but the lawsuit alleged that her campaign was underbilled because she was endorsed by the Working Families Party, a violation of election laws.
