Deitingen

Deitingen is a municipality in the district of Wasseramt in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.

[3] Deitingen has an area, as of 2009[update], of 7.64 square kilometers (2.95 sq mi).

It consists of the village of Deitingen and the hamlets of Burg, Wilihof as well as the abandoned settlement of Marchstetten.

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Per fess Argent two Horse Heads Sable issuant addorsed and of the same a Harrow of the first.

[8] Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (1,893 or 94.1%), with Serbo-Croatian being second most common (25 or 1.2%) and Italian being third (23 or 1.1%).

[7] The age distribution, as of 2000[update], in Deitingen is; 143 children or 7.1% of the population are between 0 and 6 years old and 366 teenagers or 18.2% are between 7 and 19.

The greatest number of single family homes (99) were built between 1946 and 1960.

[8] The historical population is given in the following chart:[3][13] In the 2007 federal election the most popular party was the CVP which received 28.92% of the vote.

In the federal election, a total of 855 votes were cast, and the voter turnout was 56.1%.

[8] There were 1,055 residents of the municipality who were employed in some capacity, of which females made up 42.7% of the workforce.

In 2008[update] the total number of full-time equivalent jobs was 683.

The number of jobs in the primary sector was 62, of which 45 were in agriculture and 17 were in forestry or lumber production.

In the tertiary sector; 125 or 40.1% were in wholesale or retail sales or the repair of motor vehicles, 5 or 1.6% were in the movement and storage of goods, 38 or 12.2% were in a hotel or restaurant, 5 or 1.6% were the insurance or financial industry, 25 or 8.0% were technical professionals or scientists, 26 or 8.3% were in education and 15 or 4.8% were in health care.

[8] From the 2000 census[update], 1,133 or 56.3% were Roman Catholic, while 520 or 25.9% belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church.

The education system in the Canton of Solothurn allows young children to attend two years of non-obligatory Kindergarten.

All the lower secondary students from Deitingen attend their school in a neighboring municipality.
