Delaware, Oklahoma

Delaware is a town in Nowata County, Oklahoma, United States.

[4] The town is named for the Eastern Delaware tribe that moved into this area from Kansas after signing a treaty with the Cherokee Nation in 1867.

[5] In 1889, the Kansas and Arkansas Valley Railroad built a line through this area.

[5] Discovery of oil nearby in 1904 briefly turned Delaware into a boom town with four thousand residents.

[5] According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), all land.
