It is famous for the shrine of Haji Waris Ali Shah.

The state government formally recognises Dewa Sharif as a town with a linguistic minority population, where speakers of Urdu constitute 15 per cent or more of the local population.

As of 2011 Indian Census, Dewa had a total population of 15,662, of which 8,231 were males and 7,431 were females.

[6] Dewa Sharif is well connected to Lucknow, Fatehpur, Barabanki, Suratganj, Kursi, Masauli and Cinhat via road.

Dewa Sharif is notable for the shrine of Haji Waris Ali, a Sufi saint.
