Diamond, Missouri

Diamond is a city in north central Newton County, Missouri, United States, located southeast of Joplin.

Diamond is primarily renowned as the birthplace of George Washington Carver.

[5] The origins of the town started with the building of a log house owned by Dr. and Mrs. Leathers.

[6] The town changed its name to Diamond when, in 1883, a post office came into operation.

[7] The area was named for a diamond-shaped tract of land near the original town site.

The George Washington Carver National Monument is two miles to the west, south of Missouri Route V.[10] According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.75 square miles (1.94 km2), all land.
