Edith Marion Patch House

[3] The house was rescued from demolition in 2000, and plans are in development to establish a research center and museum dedicated to Patch's life and work.

[1] The Patch House is set on the east side of College Avenue, at the northern end of the campus of the University of Maine, most of which is located in Orono.

Edith Marion Patch purchased the house, which sat on a parcel of land more than 90 acres (36 ha) in size, in 1913.

She published a number of articles in leading journals, and did groundbreaking research on aphids, which were a major crop pest.

[4] In 1997, the building, owned by the University of Maine, was scheduled to be burned as a training exercise for the Old Town Fire Department.
