Effendi Simbolon

Effendi Muara Sakti Simbolon (born 1 December 1964) is an independent Indonesian politician who has been a member of the People's Representative Council (DPR) since 2004.

After completing his high school at SMAN 3 Jakarta, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in corporate management from Jayabaya University in 1988.

[2] He was part of committee investigating the bailout of Bank Century [id], and called for the resignation of vice president Boediono (who was governor of Bank Indonesia when the bailout happened), in addition to the firing of involved ministers including Finance Minister Sri Mulyani.

[10] Early into new president Joko Widodo's tenure, Simbolon attacked a policy removing fuel subsidies, despite threats of being sanctioned by his own party.

[17] Simbolon also openly disagreed with Widodo's decision to grant amnesty to Acehnese rebel leader Din Minimi in 2016.

[19] Simbolon was dismissed from PDI-P on December 1, 2024, for endorsing Ridwan Kamil in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election and for meeting former Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
