The orchestra performs throughout Paris with concerts at the Philharmonie de Paris, where it is a resident ensemble, and also at such venues as the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Bataclan, and the Opéra Comique.
The orchestra was formed in 1978 as the Ensemble orchestral de Paris.
The most recent music director was Lars Vogt, who took up the post in 2020, with an initial contract of 3 years.
