Esther Hicks (née Weaver, born March 5, 1948) is an American inspirational speaker, channeler, and author.
She has co-written nine books with her husband Jerry Hicks, presented numerous workshops on the law of attraction with Abraham-Hicks Publications and appeared in the original version of the 2006 film The Secret.
The film contained an excerpt of a 2005 cruise conference showing Hicks explaining the Law of attraction, a central concept of The Secret's mystical self-help discourse.
[3] An attempt by Hicks to copyright the phrase law of attraction was rejected by the United States Patent Office because it had been used by Atkinson as early as 1906.
[6] Labeling these beliefs as prosperity consciousness, Gordon Melton traces their origin in 19th century Christian Science.
[6] Most messages promoted by Hicks as coming from Abraham amount to wishing for good things to happen, but occasionally veered into blaming victims of rape for the crime and people getting infected with AIDS because they lack self-love.
