Sixteen national teams entered the event under the auspices of FIBA Europe, the sport's regional governing body.

The cities of Borås, Luleå, Norrköping, Södertälje and Stockholm hosted the tournament.

Lithuania won its third FIBA European title by defeating Spain with a 93–84 score in the final.

Lithuania's Šarūnas Jasikevičius was voted the tournament's MVP.
