The white, wooden church was built in a Swiss chalet style with a cruciform design in 1891 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect.
Each church parish was a constituency that elected people called "electors" who later met together in each county to elect the representatives for the assembly that was to meet in Eidsvoll later that year.
The new building was a small timber-framed church that was built by Anders Thorsen Syrtveit.
The new building is strictly-speaking a cruciform design since there are shallow transverse arms on either side of the building, but practically speaking, it is a long church design since all of the pews face the same direction.
The church was consecrated on 16 December 1891 by the Bishop Johan Christian Heuch.
