Fabrice Leggeri

Fabrice Joël Roger Leggeri (born 28 March 1968) is a French senior civil servant who was Director of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) from 2015 to 2022.

[1] In February 2024, Leggeri announced in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche that he would be candidate number three on the National Rally list for the 2024 European Parliament election in France.

The following year he was project leader to the director for territorial, administration and political affairs at the French Ministry of Interior From 2000 to 2003, he was seconded to the European Commission as a national expert.

[5] As vice-prefect in two French regions (Upper Normandy in 2003–2005, Châteaulin District in 2005–2007),[4] Leggeri coordinated police forces and law enforcement agencies and setting up operational action plans to maintain public order and security.

[11] In October 2020, MEPs from The Left group in the European Parliament called for his resignation following journalistic investigations highlighting the role of Frontex in the pushback of asylum seekers towards Turkey.

[13] European Commissioner Ylva Johansson requested an investigation on the pushback reports and called for an extraordinary meeting of the Frontex management board on 10 November.

[17] In February 2021, under Leggeri's leadership, Frontex was accused of its staff meeting "with scores of unregistered lobbyists that represent the weapons, surveillance and biometrics industries".

[21] On 7 December 2020, the EU's anti-fraud watchdog, OLAF, raided the offices of Frontex Executive Director Fabrice Leggeri, as well as his head of Cabinet Thibauld de La Haye Jousselin as part of an investigation into allegations of "harassment, misconduct and migrant pushbacks".
