Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels

[8] On October 2, 1795, Pius VI granted a partial indulgence every time, with a contrite heart and devotion, any of the faithful say the Guardian Angel prayer.

The prayer reads, "Angel of God, my guardian dear, To whom his love commits me here, Ever this day be at my side, To light and guard, to rule and guide.

On June 11, 1796, Pope Pius VI granted another plenary indulgence to those who have frequently said this prayer at the hour of their death, provided they have the required dispositions.

"[11] The Feast of the Guardian Angels was of seminal importance to Josemaría Escrivá, who considered himself to have been inspired by God to found Opus Dei on October 2, 1928.

The significance of the day of his inspiration was evident to Escrivá, who believed that it was a sign that the work of the order would be carried out under the protection of angels.
